For those following my writing who would like to hear more and discuss current issues, I’m excited to share two presentations I have coming up — one a talk about my research for Education Justice Project (EJP) and the other an immigration panel at the Independent Media Center.
I’ll be talking to EJP’s Research Group about my research into prisons and my collaborative work to lift up the voices of incarcerated writers. It will be a virtual presentation. Thanks to Ashton Klekamp, EJP Policy & Research Director, for the invitation.
“Writing Through Walls”

Friday, April 4, 4-5pm.
RSVP here to receive the Zoom link.
I’ll also be participating in a panel discussion titled, “Immigration, Borders & Sanctuary,” where we will be talking about campaigns to fight deportations — in the current moment and historically; in Urbana-Champaign and internationally. Come listen to my longtime friend Kerry Pimblott, former C-U resident now living in Manchester, England, talk about her recent research about the long movement to build sanctuary communities. We will be joined by my other good friend Lucia Maldonado to talk about our work to support immigrant families and expose federal agents disappearing our neighbors.

A Panel Discussion with Kerry Pimblott, Lucia Maldonado, and Brian Dolinar
Tuesday, April 8, 7pm

202 S. Broadway, Urbana
In-person
Some may remember Kerry from GEO strike lines, or doing work with CU Citizens for Peace & Justice. She is back in Champaign-Urbana doing research on the sanctuary movement in our town. Here’s a fuller bio for Kerry:
Kerry Pimblott is a Senior Lecturer in International History at the University of Manchester where she writes and teaches on global movements for economic and racial justice. Pimblott’s research grows out of longstanding involvement in grassroots labour and anti-racist organisations working to challenge state violence and its impact on racialised and working class communities. During her graduate school years at Illinois, she was a member of CU-Citizens for Peace & Justice and the Graduate Employees Organisation (GEO, Local 6300). In Manchester, she is a founding member of the Race, Roots & Resistance Collective which is dedicated to critical research and action on racism in the places we live, study and work.
